About the Event

Facilitators Nate Lawson & Alissa Paris are excited to invite you to Black Mixed Dialogue: The Space Between the Notes. This bi-monthly virtual space is dedicated to those of us who identify as Black with mixed heritage or as mixed with Black heritage.

Our time together will include group dialogue, individual reflection, and interactive workshop activities. We desire to explore the space between the notes, where we can hold our nuance, and deepen our connection to the movement for Black liberation.

Talking about our Blackness and our mixedness can be complicated. We will continue to disrupt the single story around the term mixed, and will be addressing colorism, shadeism,  texturism, and featurism, among other topics and themes. There will be therapeutic elements within the activities and dialogue and we will establish community agreements at the beginning of our time together. Should you feel triggered or should harm occur in the space, the facilitators are prepared to support you and take steps to repair harm.

We can’t wait to hear more about your experiences, and to discuss language, history, and much more in the dialogue.
